On the Thames

After his stay in Spain, Anders Zorn settled in Richmond, England, a town on the River Thames near London. Here he created numerous works with water motifs. His favourite model at this time was the young Mary Smith. Under the title "On the Thames", he created two watercolours, a pen and ink drawing and the etching shown on the left with the same motif. The etching was published in 1887 with the inscription "L. ZORN PINX. ET SCULPS. - FÖREN F. GRAFISK KONST 1887 - PÅ THEMSEN" in the journal of the Swedish Society of Graphic Arts (275 copies).

The new third state has not yet been mentioned or illustrated in any of the published catalogues. It was found in the digitised collection of the Yale University ArtGallery (Accession Number: 1967.46.2).
The working area has not yet been reduced in size, but the traces of the plate holder have already been removed.
